Gas Fireplace Repair — Pilots, Igniters, Valves, and Burners
Gas fireplace won't light, keeps going out, or burns wrong? Same-visit fixes and annual service by certified technicians.
Nine out of ten dead gas fireplaces come down to a short list: a thermocouple or thermopile at the end of its life, a dirty pilot assembly, a failed igniter, or a wall switch and remote that quietly gave up. These are quick, inexpensive fixes when the technician shows up with the right parts — which is why ours carry the common ones on the truck.
Summit Chimney services all major gas fireplace brands: pilot and ignition systems, gas valves, burners, blowers, remotes, and glass. Every visit ends with a burn test and a carbon monoxide safety check. And if your unit hasn't been serviced in years, our annual maintenance — burner and log cleaning, glass cleaning, and a full safety test — brings it back to burning the way it did new.
Common gas fireplace problems
- Pilot light won't stay lit
- Igniter clicks but nothing lights
- Main burner won't fire, or shuts off mid-burn
- Lazy yellow or sooty flames
- Remote or wall switch not responding
- Fogged, sooty, or filmy glass

Homeowners who booked gas fireplace repair
“We had water stains on the ceiling next to the fireplace and two other companies quoted us a full rebuild without even getting on the roof. Summit's tech ran a camera, found it was just failed flashing and a cracked crown, and fixed both for a fraction of those quotes. Honest diagnosis, photos of everything, and no scare tactics. That's rare in this business.”

“Booked the sweep and inspection special online in about a minute. They confirmed by text within the hour, showed up at the start of the window, and finished in about 90 minutes. My gas fireplace also had a pilot light issue and the tech sorted it in the same visit. Fair, fast, and genuinely tidy — I would not hesitate to use them again.”

“We bought an older home and had Summit do a Level 2 camera inspection before our first fire. Thorough is an understatement — full video of the flue, a written report with photos, and a clear list of what actually needed attention versus what could wait. No pressure to do everything at once. The repairs we did book came in at the flat price quoted.”

Gas Fireplace Repair questions
Why won't my pilot light stay lit?
Usually a worn thermocouple or thermopile — the sensor that tells the gas valve the pilot is burning. It is one of the most common and least expensive gas fireplace repairs, and our techs carry replacements on the truck.
Does a gas fireplace really need annual service?
Yes — dust, pet hair, and spider webs foul the pilot and burner ports, the flame pattern drifts, and safety systems go untested. An annual tune-up keeps it lighting reliably and catches venting or CO issues early.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Don't troubleshoot it — leave the house, then call your gas utility's emergency line from outside. Once the utility confirms it's safe, we can diagnose and repair whatever caused it.
My remote stopped working — is that worth a service call?
Often it's batteries or a receiver sync, which we're happy to walk you through by phone first. If the receiver or wall switch has failed, we replace it in one visit — usually alongside a tune-up so the trip does double duty.
