Ladder set against a roof for a chimney inspection

You cannot see the inside of your own flue — which is exactly where the problems live. Creosote glaze, cracked flue tiles, gaps at the joints, a smoke chamber holding decades of buildup. A real inspection puts a camera up the flue and eyes on the roof, then hands you the evidence in a written report.

Summit Chimney performs all three NFPA 211 inspection levels: Level 1 (annual visual inspection and safety assessment — our $69 special), Level 2 (full video camera scan, required when buying a home or changing how the flue is used), and Level 3 (invasive inspection when hidden damage is suspected). Every inspection ends with a photo report and straight answers — never a scare-tactic upsell.

What we check

  • Creosote buildup and glaze level in the flue
  • Flue liner condition — cracks, gaps, shifted tiles
  • Crown, cap, and exterior masonry condition
  • Flashing and water entry points
  • Firebox, damper, and smoke chamber
  • Clearances, termination height, and draft

What you get

Full Video Flue Scan

On Level 2 inspections, a camera travels the entire flue and records the condition of every joint and tile.

Written Photo Report

You keep a documented report — perfect for home purchases, insurance, and your own records.

CSIA-Certified Inspectors

The industry's recognized chimney safety credential, on every inspection.

Customer reviews

Homeowners who booked chimney inspection

google

“We had water stains on the ceiling next to the fireplace and two other companies quoted us a full rebuild without even getting on the roof. Summit's tech ran a camera, found it was just failed flashing and a cracked crown, and fixed both for a fraction of those quotes. Honest diagnosis, photos of everything, and no scare tactics. That's rare in this business.”

“Booked the sweep and inspection special online in about a minute. They confirmed by text within the hour, showed up at the start of the window, and finished in about 90 minutes. My gas fireplace also had a pilot light issue and the tech sorted it in the same visit. Fair, fast, and genuinely tidy — I would not hesitate to use them again.”

“We bought an older home and had Summit do a Level 2 camera inspection before our first fire. Thorough is an understatement — full video of the flue, a written report with photos, and a clear list of what actually needed attention versus what could wait. No pressure to do everything at once. The repairs we did book came in at the flat price quoted.”

FAQ

Chimney Inspection questions

What's the difference between Level 1, 2, and 3?

Level 1 is the annual visual inspection and safety assessment ($69 special). Level 2 adds a full video camera scan of the flue and is required when a home is sold or the flue's use changes ($199). Level 3 is an invasive inspection — opening walls or masonry — used only when levels 1 or 2 find evidence of hidden damage.

Should I get an inspection before buying a home?

Absolutely — a Level 2 with camera scan. Chimney repairs are one of the most commonly missed costs in a home purchase, and general home inspectors do not scope flues. The written report is also leverage in negotiation.

How long does an inspection take?

A Level 1 runs about 45 minutes; a Level 2 with camera scan usually 60 to 90 minutes. You get the findings on the spot and the written report the same day.

What happens if you find a problem?

You get photos of it, a plain-English explanation, and a flat quote if you want it fixed — with priorities marked honestly. No pressure, no on-the-spot decision required.

Ready for a safer, cleaner chimney?

Same-week appointments, honest flat pricing, and no scare tactics.
