Chimney cap and crown at the top of a roof

The crown is the concrete slab that sheds water off the top of your chimney, and the cap is the lid that keeps rain, embers, birds, and raccoons out of the flue itself. They fail quietly — a hairline crack in the crown, a rusted cap screen — and by the time you notice, water has been running down inside the masonry for seasons.

Summit Chimney repairs cracked crowns with flexible crown-coat systems, rebuilds crowns that are past sealing, and installs stainless steel caps with spark screens that carry a lifetime warranty. It's roof-level work most homeowners never see — which is exactly why we photograph all of it, before and after.

What we handle

  • Stainless steel cap installation and replacement

  • Full crown rebuilds
  • Animal and bird intrusion prevention

Homeowners who booked cap & crown repair

“We had water stains on the ceiling next to the fireplace and two other companies quoted us a full rebuild without even getting on the roof. Summit's tech ran a camera, found it was just failed flashing and a cracked crown, and fixed both for a fraction of those quotes. Honest diagnosis, photos of everything, and no scare tactics. That's rare in this business.”

“Booked the sweep and inspection special online in about a minute. They confirmed by text within the hour, showed up at the start of the window, and finished in about 90 minutes. My gas fireplace also had a pilot light issue and the tech sorted it in the same visit. Fair, fast, and genuinely tidy — I would not hesitate to use them again.”

“We bought an older home and had Summit do a Level 2 camera inspection before our first fire. Thorough is an understatement — full video of the flue, a written report with photos, and a clear list of what actually needed attention versus what could wait. No pressure to do everything at once. The repairs we did book came in at the flat price quoted.”

FAQ

Cap & Crown Repair questions

Do I really need a chimney cap?

Yes — an open flue is a hole in your roof. Rain, snowmelt, nesting birds, and raccoons all use it, and a cap with a spark screen also keeps embers from landing on the roof. It is the single best value in chimney work.

Crown repair or crown rebuild — how do you decide?

Hairline and surface cracks get a flexible crown-coat sealant that moves with the temperature swings. A crown that is crumbling, delaminating, or letting the top brick courses shift needs a rebuild. The photos make the call obvious.

How long do these repairs last?

Stainless caps carry a lifetime warranty. A properly applied crown coat is typically good for 10 to 15 years, and a rebuilt cast crown for decades.

There's an animal in my chimney — can you help?

Yes. We handle removal safely and humanely, clean up the nesting debris (a real fire hazard), and cap the flue so it doesn't happen again. Note that nesting chimney swifts are federally protected — if that's your guest, we'll explain the required timing.

Ready for a safer, cleaner chimney?

Same-week appointments, honest flat pricing, and no scare tactics.
